During these hotter months all walks are conducted in areas where the dogs can swim, or at least dip their paws or cool off their tummies, very impotrant for all dogs, and of course a real hit with most of our pooches who just love to swim. Swims are often followed by some mad running around and chasing each other, and of course a roll in the lovely green grass to dry off and have a good rub all over. (see Panda below). Often a roll over is a popular time for Mabel or Panda to sneek up on each other, or poor Mojo and get in a quick invite for a play, and again the mad chasing begins.

This time of year is just perfect for dog walking in the Gold Coast. Not a cloud in sight, and lovely sunny days free from humidity is just what the dogs love. Nothing makes me happier than seeing the dogs bound out of the car and across the grass to the lake at the Botanical gardens, Panda and Charlie can't get enough of the water, whilst Toto and Diesel run madly from tree to tree, all with huge grins on their faces.
Walking along behind them all is a joy to see, wagging tails and bums of all shapes and sizes, I wish every dog in the coast could enjoy a walk like this. Walks generally last around an hour, although I am sure some of the dogs would happily stay out all day. As the weather heats up and we get into the warmer summer months all walks will commence earlier to avoid the heat of the day. But for now, I can't think of a better way to enjoy this beautiful time of the year in the Gold Coast.

Many local dog parks in the Gold Coast have been far too wet of late, luckily Pizzy Park in Miami is OK, the dogs love the agility, the birds and the lake, a great option for the swimming fans. Local dog friendly beaches are also a good option in this weather, lots of foam in the water from all the recent rains and floods, the dogs loved this today, chasing it and trying to eat it! Water temperatures here in the Gold Coast are lovely and warm, perfect for dogs, Walktime recomments Tallebudgera and also Currumbin, plenty of beach for running, and always lots of other dogs to play with.

What dog doenst like a walk in a park where dogs are allowed to swim in the lake with the ducks? Mojo, Boo and Po love Pizzy Park, especially on these hot summer days, not only is it nice and shady, but swimming is encouraged! This park also has a fenced area with agility for the dogs, a great walking path around the lake, and numerous birds to chase, not to mention all the other dogs.
Walktime recommends a rinse off under some fresh water after swimming in the lake, the water doesnt always smell the best, but the dogs love it and it keeps them nice and cool.
Rain, hail or shine, or in the case of the recent weather conditions in the Gold Coast, torrential rain, Walkime will be out walking! As long as its safe for your dog to be out in the weather, we will endeavour to ensure your dog always receives his/her daily dose of exercise.
The dogs didnt mind the rain and wet conditions last week, it made a nice cool change from hot, humid, summer days, although it is important to always rinse the dogs off after these wet walks. Many dogs can develop skin irritations from the wet grass, a quick rinse off with clean water will make sure there is no wet grass and residue left on the dog.
During the hot summer months, Walktime will not walk the dogs in the hot sun during the hottest parts of the day, all walks are scheduled to take place either in the morning or late afternoon.
Beach adventure walks run every Tuesday throughout summer and are conducted at The Spit, Currumbin beach and Tallebudgera beach, all great off lead dog beaches.

As the weather heats up, water is becoming a big feature of all our walks, even those dogs who are not big fans of water seem to be changing their minds very fast! All walks are run either in the morning or late afternoon during summer to avoid the hottest part of the day, just like us humans, our dogs can also suffer heat stress, deydration, and general discomfort in the hot summer time.
Remember to ensure your dog has an adequate supply of cold, fresh water available to them whilst they are home alone, and a cool, shady place to get out of the sun and heat, why not try leaving some frozen water toys for them to play with. Frescott Park in Varsity Lakes is the perfect place for dogs! Fully fenced, grassed and very large, this park allows many dogs to run, chase balls, try out the agility and generally have a great time, in a safe environment.
Walktime group walks often take place here, below in the video you can see Mojo, Piper, Chelsea, Po, Lulu and Bindi enjoying the park. The busiest times tend to be before and after work, at these peak times you can see up to twenty dogs of different shapes and sizes, all enjoying their time out. If your dog enjoys socialising with others, this park offers a great opportunity for your dog to play with others.

Raz, Lulu and Louis love Pizzy Park and their new friend, Sammy. Its great to be able to let them all of the lead and watch them have so much fun chasing each other, (or for Lulu chasing birds and ducks), and even doing some agility activites! Raz loves all the new smells and endless options for sniffing, whilst Louis is getting more and more social each walk, I think he secretly likes Raz…
Walking three dogs on a lead can be challenging but today we managed a stroll around the lake with minimal lead tangling and my arms being pulled in oposite directions, and felt very glad to know that the dog swimming out in the lake after a duck was not with us, he eventually made it to shore! Lulu was very keen to get in there with him but as yet Walktime dog walks don't include long distance duck chasing in lakes.
Raz, Louis and Bindi love Pizzy Park. On such a beautiful day who wouldn't enjoy a stroll around the lake, through the amazing trees, and even a run around the agility course. Louis wasn't too sure at first but was soon following Bindi up and over the ramp and through the tunnel, have to work on those jumps next time! Meanwhile Raz as always is just content to sniff, wee, sniff, wee and do it all again!
Pizzy Park in Miami has great facilities for walking your dog, including an agility area, so much fun for your dog, and you the owner watching them run up the ramp, over the jumps and through the poles!
Phoenix, Lulu and Raz weren't too sure at first but Lulu was soon racing up the ramp, through the tunnel and almost over the jumps! Raz preferred to just sniff around, and Phoenix made some new friends and did a lot of running around. Once we had all had enough of agility, it was off for a leisurely stroll around the lake and playing fields, it is a beautiful park for a walk. Definately a lead only walk for these three, there are plenty of birds and ducks that can tempt any pooch, poor Lulu was very keen to have a swim with some ducks!

Max and Sam enjoyed their walk to the dog park in Miami, and loved meeting all the other dogs at the park. This off leash area in Miami is a great size area for the dogs, is very safe being enclosed on all sides, and just a short walk from home.
It was a big day out for all at Currumbin recently, especially for me running after them all! All the dogs went for a swim, we all did some running, chased some balls and the staffies dug holes much to the amazement of Beau and Lulu who weren't quite sure what they were doing, but were soon copying! This time of year is perfect for a morning walk along the beach, the dogs don't mind the water getting colder and all enjoy their turn with the towel back at the car before going home, tired and happy!
Chloe, Beau and Lulu love Pizzy Park, especially chasing birds and ducks! This is a great off lead park for the dogs, one of the best dog walking areas in the Gold Coast, it even has a small agility area. Chloe and Beau were very good at going up the ramp and over the pipe, not so good at the jumps! Little Lulu chased behind and even got the courage up once to go up the ramp almost to the top!
As we all know Staffies love their sticks! Bindi and Diesel both wanted the same stick and a great tug of war game was on! Not sure who won but they just love the beach and stick throwing into the water is the best fun ever! Currumbin and Tallebudgera are great off lead beaches for the dogs, nice and safe too, a great place for a Walktime walk.
And after a few hours at the beach, its home time for some fun and cuddles!
Binid and Lulu out walking with Walktime at Tallebdugera. Of all the dog walking areas in the Gold Coast we all love this beach as it is very dog friendly, and the dogs love playing in the rocks. Lulu is learning to socialise very well, although returning sticks and balls is not one of her best tricks yet.
